The Center for Naval Metalworking (CNM) specializes in developing and deploying cutting-edge metalworking and related manufacturing technologies, aimed at reducing the cost and time needed to build and repair key U.S. Navy ships and weapons platforms.

CNM employs a proven approach that combines the “Virtual Center” model with in-house technical expertise. This ensures that project teams consist of the best providers from the industry to identify, develop, select, and execute ‘metals-centric’ projects that support the Navy ManTech program objectives and facilitate a smooth transition to industry.  CNM partners with leading Navy platform OEMs and top metalworking technology providers. Together, they conduct projects focusing on robotics and automation, welding and joining, metallic additive manufacturing, casting, forging, machining, as well as process design control, advanced metrology, and inspection technologies.

CNM applies in-depth knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, polymers, chemistry, and thermodynamics to solve fabrication challenges, develop new materials, and optimize designs for safety, strength, and reliability.

Our metal 3D printing process capabilities include laser and electron beam powder bed fusion, laser and arc directed energy deposition, binder jetting, and ultrasonic additive manufacturing

CNM utilizes an extensive range of metallurgy thermal processing services to improve the structural and physical properties of metals. These processes allow our metalworkers to alter the microstructure of metals and alloys to provide the strongest product.
